Wheelspin frenzy is a top down arcade racer where you can race through various different tracks and terrains with lots of different types of cars to choose from. The game is developed and published by Mental moose games this is their first outing and they have not made any other games before this.
I honestly went into this not expecting much from it and I was pleasantly surprised, the game manages to keep you interested for a good few hours of fun. It is very simplistic at its core there are cars to choose from and a few tracks. Five for every new area and there are four areas, not all tracks are unlocked from the get go you have to do specific tasks to unlock them. Again its not to bad but I had some trouble at first. After a while I did get the hang of it eventually. The cars felt a bit to light at times but that's part of the game its an arcade racer its not might to be realistic, I managed to get used to it and it wasn't so bad after I was playing the game for a few hours.
While there is a wide selection of cars to choose from not all of them is available from the start you unlock cars the same way you unlock tracks. Having variety is a good thing however when there is no stats to show what makes a car good. It makes it hard to choose while its clear the later cars you unlock are better. The addition of stats would have made my choice that much simpler. Also why is there no mini map? I had to lose on new tracks because I never knew when a turn would come on so I would always crash, I know its simple but it helps so much when you don't know the layout of the track at first.
The game also allows you to play with friends and you can even create your own custom competition and play that way the best out of all those tracks is the winner. Now this does provide some fun to be had with their being no online and it only being local it is hard to have fun with people that's on the other side of the country. Another problem is how open the tracks are instead of having barriers up like in Need For Speed Underground 2 like we used to it, it leaves tracks open so you're flying off the side a lot. Also when you skip like I just mentioned the game doesn't penalize you instead it doesn't count your lap that you were on cause technically you didn't finish it.
While this game did provide me with some problems overall it was a fun experience, it wasn't over bearing or anything like that at times it was hard but when I got a hang of it, it was a breeze. The game does lack depth but that's the beauty of these types of games you make your own fun and that's okay with me. Anybody that likes to have some fun with friends should get this even with a few problems it still doesn't take away from the overall experience.
I rate this game a 7/10
