Insane robots is brought to us by Playniac, a not so small developer and publisher who has done so much for video games. Their "about us" page speaks volumes of what they have achieved in their time being live. They are known for being innovative with the games they make and I can see why. They already have games like Anomaly x, Cat on yer head and international squirrel racing under their belt and with Insane robots they added another.
Now the second I saw this was a card and board game I was interested from the beginning. I'm a big fan of games like Gwent and heartstone and while I was expecting this game to be just like them. This was wasn't the case however it did bring more to the table, for me while card games like Gwent and heartstone is good card games at its core that is all they are. This has a lot more going on it has a story set up just like a elimination style tournament mode and a two player quick battle mode plus, a two player online mode and lastly a quick battle mode which just puts you against ai controlled opponents.
There are a lot of modes to play around in and as you can see this is what I meant. Lets start with the campaign mode, the tournament is set up where you move a around an open area till you meet up with another opponent. There are a few opponents per tournament and whoever is left standing is the winner. Now each tournament does offer 3 stars each I couldn't figure out how to earn all the stars but I think it is rewarded on how quickly you finish the tournament. This does offer replayablitiy because players will try and earn the stars. Only making certain players more skillful which is a good thing.
Within the other modes you can play two players with one controller by taking turns or online with your friends. Which does provide a good bit of fun, the other quick battle mode I had the least time with but it is a smart idea. Within the game there is also rpg elements by giving the player a chance to unlock other heroes with different abilities. I think there is about 43 different heroes to choose from which unlock once you beat them in the campaign. This adds a lot of chance for players to come back and try new things and find new ways to have fine. Additionally the augments within the game also changes the gameplay by giving you certain abilities and this does provide another element to the game by again bringing players back for more.
I believe this game is definitely worth your time it clearly does a lot to try and bring more players in and it does a lot to keep players interested. These guys have some real talent in their team and they really made something great here. I do hope that they go and venture into other genres because I can see a rpg or mmo style game coming from these guys and I would definitely play it.
I rate this 7/10
