Thinice Games is a Spanish based indie developer who has only developed Twin robots released on Steam,PS4 and Nintando switch and later released Twin robots:Ultimate edition for xbox one with some help from Ratalaika Games. The game first got put on steam greenlight way back in 2014 and has been worked on ever since. I did get the privilege to have played the ultimate edition of the game meaning it is the most polished version.
Watt and Volt are twin robots who have been abandoned in an old factory and they have to work together to get out. While at first this game looks like every other 2D platformer you have played before and that's not the case. It has some unique features and in the way it implements those features makes this game a enjoyable experience. At the start of every level you only control one robot and the other is trapped and will die soon if you don't find the red button in the level in time. I didn't find the time given to find the button that harsh all it did was make the red button a priority to make sure the other twin is safe. Only then could you carry on figuring out how to get through the level, all this did was make that every level had nice pacing and you weren't all over the place.
Also when stepping on a red button it would switch power through out the level so there were these energy pads on the ground which would give you energy. Running, jumping almost doing anything with your robot would use energy, so this was a key feature in the game you needed to maintain your energy for both robots. To reach the end of the level where you have to feed energy to the door to open it and end the level. So this made finishing levels interesting, you really had to think on your toes and find paths throughout the levels where you weren't wasting energy.
Also if things got heated you could share energy between the robots just getting the second twin to the end of the level and making sure you have enough energy to open the door at the end. One issue I had with the game was at times, I feel fundamental things in platformers like grabbing a ledge or jumping on a moving platform didn't work properly and it makes the experience worse. Some of the best platformers in the last few years like Limbo or Super meat boy there are elements in those games that just makes it work. In the ultimate edition this was one of the issues addressed but I feel it still needs a bit more work to make it that much smoother.
I don't think this game is a bad game just cause certain platforming mechanics didn't work properly. It definitely is worth it with for the ultimate edition with 12 extra levels added and much of the game being reworked like the music and improved like the graphics and 3D backgrounds .I do think a purchase is needed for this it is worth your time.
I rate this game a 8/10
